The Season Has Two Camps
The earthy camp carries the volume: cocoa, dark olive, burgundy. WGSN connects this group with nostalgia and visible craftsmanship — and it aligns almost exactly with what people reach for when the weather turns.
The bright camp carries the attention: tomato red, cobalt, soft pink. These colours sell in smaller quantities and photograph in much bigger ones.
Buy the first camp in depth and the second for the feed — and keep cream in between. The neutral is not filler; it is what stops a dark assortment from reading as one undifferentiated block.
The Seven Shades
Runway and forecast references at the top, the hex value in the middle, and underneath, the stones that carry each shade.
1. Deep Purple & Aubergine
Valentino · Gucci · Proenza Schouler · Cult Gaia
Runway → The replacement for black
Purple took on the role usually played by black. Coveteur spotted deep aubergine at Diotima, Cult Gaia and Proenza Schouler, describing it as a muted alternative to black and brown for evening — which is exactly why it has made its way into everyday dressing. It does not require a new wardrobe, just swapping one dark piece for something slightly warmer.
The Stones
Amethyst is the obvious choice and is available at every price point. Below that sit lilac and pale violet — lighter, less formal and easier to wear in daylight. WGSN lists Fresh Purple as a key colour for A/W 26/27, so the family still has another season ahead of it.
The Metal
Gold. Purple looks rich against yellow gold; against cooler steel it can tip towards grey and lose its warmth. If you carry this colour in only one metal, make it gold.
How to Wear It
With charcoal, black or deep brown. Purple on purple is a runway idea rather than a shop-floor one — one violet stone against a dark neutral is enough.
Dottilove Purple Edit
The collection does not currently include a pure purple stone, but these three carry the mood of the shade: graduated pink tones, lava stone and vintage cubic zirconia in light coffee brown.
2. Burgundy & Tomato Red
Valentino · Balenciaga · all over social media
Runway → Two seasons in a row
Two reds with two different jobs. Pantone included Red Mahogany among its ten New York colours for Autumn/Winter 2026/27, citing Simkhai, 7 For All Mankind, Marina Moscone and Adeam — this is the wine-red end of the spectrum, and when worn it behaves almost like a neutral. The louder end is tomato: Coveteur spotted it at Valentino, Carolina Herrera and Balenciaga and made the commercially important point that it ran through both Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter 2026. A colour that survives a seasonal change is worth buying in depth.
The Stones
Garnet first: widely available, strong even in small cuts and almost an exact match for the wine-red end of the story. Rhodolite moves pinker, ruby moves more expensive, and red spinel delivers tomato-level saturation without ruby pricing. One useful trade observation comes from J&M Jewelry, which groups garnet, spinel and ruby as the season’s rich red story and notes that the effect is enhanced by yellow-gold settings.
The Metal
Gold for the burgundy end. Tomato red is the one shade here where steel genuinely keeps up — bright red against polished steel feels modern, while gold makes it more classic.
How to Wear It
Burgundy with camel, cream and grey; tomato with black or denim. Burgundy against camel is about as reliable as autumn colour combinations get — and the one to open a window display with.
Dottilove Red Edit
The red end of the assortment — an enamel heart, a colourful cubic-zirconia loop and a rose-toned pearl flower.
3. Dark Olive
Pantone NYFW Autumn 2026 report · earthy greens across TikTok
Pantone → The quiet climber
Pantone named Burnt Olive in its New York report, citing Cult Gaia, Altuzarra, Kate Barton and Mel Usine. Olive is the quietest shade of the season and the one most likely still to sell next autumn — it reads as earth rather than fashion.
The Stones
Peridot is the accessible entry point. Olive quartz gives the deeper, smokier version. Chrome diopside is the stone worth knowing: J&M Jewelry lists it alongside peridot as an affordable alternative to emerald — and in smaller sizes, the difference is barely noticeable.
The Metal
Gold, clearly. Green against yellow gold is a centuries-old pairing and it still works; against steel, olive can drift towards dullness.
How to Wear It
With brown, cream and even more olive. This is the one shade where tone-on-tone — olive on olive — looks intentional rather than excessive.
Dottilove Green Edit
Green in three settings — glass stones, a cubic-zirconia clover and star ear cuffs.
4. Champagne to Chocolate
The autumn base, still central
Coloro → The base everything else sits on
WGSN and Coloro list Cocoa Powder as a key colour for A/W 26/27 — a red-toned brown they connect with nostalgia and visible craftsmanship. Lighten it and it becomes champagne. Less a trend than the ground the other six colours stand on.
The Stones
Smoky quartz for the deep end, champagne cubic zirconia for accessible sparkle, and citrine and golden topaz for the warm middle. Christopher Duquet groups citrine, spessartine garnet and golden topaz as the true autumn palette. There is also a Quiet Luxury reading: J&M Jewelry places smoky quartz, champagne diamonds and grey moonstone together as understated everyday stones.
The Metal
Gold, almost invisibly. The appeal of this family is that stone and setting merge into one warm object instead of reading as stone-plus-metal.
How to Wear It
With everything — that is the commercial argument. For customers who find colour difficult, this is the shade to start with.
Dottilove Champagne Edit
The warm neutral end — gold, light coffee-brown resin and clover-shaped cubic zirconia.
5. Cobalt & Navy
Bottega Veneta · Loewe · Givenchy
Runway → The shade that photographs
Coveteur spotted cobalt at Bottega Veneta, Loewe and Givenchy and noted that it held across both 2026 seasons. Blue is already a colour customers trust — a saturated version is one step beyond navy, not a leap.
The Stones
London Blue topaz is the workhorse: deep, consistent and inexpensive considering how saturated it looks. Aquamarine covers the lighter end, while tanzanite takes care of violet-blue. J&M Jewelry groups tanzanite, blue topaz and aquamarine under Ice Blue — made for minimalist settings.
The Metal
Both, genuinely. Blue against steel feels cool and contemporary; against gold it warms towards sapphire. This is the shade best shown in both versions side by side.
How to Wear It
Against grey, navy and white. Cobalt next to a cream knit is the photograph that works — high contrast, no styling effort required.
Dottilove Blue Edit
Blue in three scales — a fan earring with blue beads, a cubic-zirconia wave and three large glass stones.
6. Soft Pink
Chanel · Sandy Liang · Conner Ives · Valentino
Pantone + Runway → A basic by now
Pantone’s Foxglove appeared with Sandy Liang, Prabal Gurung, Carolina Herrera and 6397; independently, Coveteur identified baby pink at Acne Studios, Ulla Johnson and Stella McCartney. Two independent lists landing on the same colour family — the strongest signal in this guide.
The Stones
Rose quartz for the milky version, morganite for something peachier and more elevated, and pink tourmaline and pink sapphire for saturation. The opposite direction is just as noteworthy: J&M Jewelry reports neon pink and magenta as a strong social-media trend, while WGSN kept Electric Fuchsia in its 2026 selection. Soft pink sells to one customer; bright pink to another.
The Metal
Gold for warmth, steel for a cooler and more modern impression. Rose-gold plating is the obvious third option — and the one most likely to be overbought: it narrows the audience rather than expanding it.
How to Wear It
With grey, black and brown. Pink against brown is the combination that has quietly taken over autumn content — it deserves to be styled deliberately.
Dottilove Pink Edit
Soft pink in resin and acrylic, joined by an earring with colourful rhinestones.
7. Cream, Ivory & Ecru
The neutral that lets a dark palette breathe
Pantone Colour of the Year → The headline nobody expected
Pantone named Cloud Dancer (PANTONE 11-4201) its Colour of the Year for 2026 — a “billowy, balanced white”, described as a whisper of calm in a noisy world, and the first white since the programme began in 1999. WGSN landed in a similar place with Wax Paper, a creamy off-white positioned as a near-neutral.
The Stones
Pearl, moonstone and mother-of-pearl. Moonstone is the one to watch: Christopher Duquet predicts a rise as the natural successor to the pearl boom of the early 2020s, aimed at minimalist buyers.
The Metal
Gold warms it; steel keeps it cool and clean. Against a dark palette, both work because the job here is contrast rather than harmony.
How to Wear It
Against every other colour on this list. A dark palette needing cream is more mechanical than aesthetic — six deep shades without something light between them stop reading as individual colours.
Dottilove Neutral Edit
The neutral end — beige resin, white cubic zirconia and a white clover.
Buying Colour
Three of the seven are close to safe bets: burgundy, olive and the champagne-to-chocolate base. They behave like neutrals, they carry into the next season, and leftover stock is not a problem because it will sell again next autumn.
Three are seasonal and should be bought shallow and bright: tomato red, cobalt and soft pink. They photograph well, they drive the post, and they age faster.
One is the wildcard: deep purple. It is the most distinctive shade of the season and the one a customer is least likely to already own — which is both the argument for it and the risk.
And a colour story needs at least one light piece to read as a story at all. If the order is all depth, add cream before adding another dark shade.
