One post, three cakes
Every trend has a patient zero, and this one is unusually easy to date. On 9 August 2026, the eve of her 29th birthday, Kylie Jenner threw a pink-drenched, princess-kitties-themed party and posted the evidence to Instagram: three themed cakes — one topped with kittens, one a bikini-clad torso, and one entirely covered in colourful jewel stickers.
The original post is the primary source for everything that followed — within days, “King Kylie said jewel stickers are back” became the internet’s marching orders.
And she isn’t done. Just this week, Jenner posted a fresh coloured-gemstone manicure to her Stories — a single vivid crystal on every nail, emerald-cut clears, a green trillion, a ruby-red cushion, a drop of yellow, by longtime manicurist @nailsbyzola — alongside a mirror selfie with a rhinestone-dotted phone case.
The gem streak, in other words, is still running.
The press calls it
The media chain formed fast. Tyla reported influencers bedazzling cups, phone cases and nails within days, with Kylie Cosmetics itself posting gem-covered products.
The National declared bedazzling “2026’s boldest trend”, observing that gemstones “are making themselves at home on our clothes, shoes, bags, accessories, and even food”.
The Free Press Journal went inside the “bedazzled-everything” virality, Woman Magazine tracked how the birthday bash sparked a jewel trend, and L’Officiel Thailand took the trend to an international fashion audience.
Scroll through your feed right now and you’ll find gemstones living their best life far outside the jewellery box. Bedazzled birthday cakes have dethroned last year’s piped buttercream florals. Matcha and iced-coffee cups are getting crystal makeovers before they get photographed. Sheet masks are being studded mid-skincare-routine, phone cases are dripping in rhinestones, and manicurists can barely keep gems in stock.
The receipts are all over social media. The Free Press Journal rounded up the wave as it happened: gem-covered celebration cakes, crystal-studded matcha cups, bedazzled beauty routines — sheet masks included — and gem-trimmed treats, all posted within days of each other.
The trend is documenting itself in real time.
From face gems to fine jewellery
Fashion press then connected the cake moment to something bigger. Who What Wear traced the Y2K body-gem revival — born in nineties rave culture, peaked in the 2000s, killed by quiet luxury, and now back via Kylie’s rhinestone looks at Coachella, Zara Larsson’s aquamarine gems and SZA’s stage styling.
Gen Z, they note, is remixing the 2000s look with “amplified maximalism” — fun, deliberately over the top, insanely kitsch.
Crucially for anyone who’d like their sparkle to survive a shower: the appetite has already jumped from stick-on gems to the real thing.
Who What Wear named colourful gemstone jewellery the #1 jewellery trend for summer 2026 — vivid sapphires, rubies, emeralds and yellow diamonds, worn “with a simple white T-shirt or styled with an elegant evening dress”.
As they put it, the market is seeing “a big shift to the addition of color in the world of jewelry”.
Why we’re all craving sparkle again
After years of quiet luxury telling us to whisper in beige, fashion has swung hard the other way.
The bedazzled trend is pure nostalgia — nineties rave gems, 2000s bejazzled flip phones, Barbie-princess birthday parties — filtered through Gen Z’s more-is-more maximalism.
But it’s also something simpler: sparkle is fun. Sticking a jewel on your coffee cup turns an ordinary Tuesday ritual into a tiny celebration. Colour and shine make people happy, and 2026 has decided to stop pretending otherwise.
Sparkle that doesn’t peel off
Here’s the thing about peel-and-stick gems: they peel. The cake gets eaten, the cup gets recycled, the mani grows out.
That’s exactly why we made the new Dottilove Bedazzled Collection — the trend, grown up and here to stay.
Heart-cut stones ringed in crystal pavé halos, star-cut crystals in beaded gold frames, pastel teardrops on golden curb chains, rainbow bezels finished with a pearl drop: every piece takes the jewel-sticker joy of this summer and sets it in gold, for every single day.
The same dopamine hit as a gem-covered cake, minus the expiry date.
How to wear it: three easy ways
Start with colour-stacking. The bedazzled aesthetic is about beautiful excess, so layer the bracelets in clashing-but-cute combinations — hearts beside stars beside pastels — and let your wrist do the talking. It’s the fine-jewellery answer to a rhinestone manicure, and it looks incredible with one, too.
Next, try the echo trick. Pick up one colour from your outfit — or your face gems, we don’t judge — and repeat it in your jewellery: the aqua teardrop of the lariat necklace with a denim moment, the pink hearts bracelet peeking out over a baby tee. The repetition reads intentional, polished and just the right amount of extra.
And finally, mix eras. The magic of 2026’s trend is nostalgia worn with modern confidence — and a gem-drop earring trailing into a pearl is pure 2000s nostalgia with modern polish. Pair it with your most Y2K outfit and you get the best of both: playfulness that doesn’t look like a costume.
Shine on
Trends will come and go — even King Kylie’s. But the urge behind this one, the pure joy of colour and sparkle, never really left and never really will.
So bedazzle the cake, gem the cup, crystal the manicure. And when you’re ready for sparkle that survives the party, the Dottilove Bedazzled Collection will be waiting — every stone the start of your own little trend.
